How to Find Inspiration

mindSometimes it can be a little puzzling to come up with a new blog post, a topic for an assignment or something awesome to wear to that big event coming up. Even I find coming up with ideas can be a complete road block sometimes. Here are some tried and tested ways that I’ve used in the past for coming up with in-genius ideas!

1 Books, Magazines and Newspapers Are Your Best Friend

– Open up a magazine to a random page and tell yourself ‘I need to find inspiration from the page I look at’ look at the page until you find a word or image that captures your attention and then think of how you could apply it to that blog post you need to write.

– Read, Read and Read. Staying up to date with not only the latest trends but politics, world events, local events, people, places and things will be a great source of inspiration. Read through your local newspaper or on the net (though I think newspapers are more fun!).

– Grab a novel, a pretty coffee table book or even a book you have no interest in and read some of it – not only will you learn something new, enjoy a great story, feast your eyes on pretty pictures, or if its a really awful book learn what not to do. Think about what you can take away from this book and apply it.

2 Mind Map Your Brain

– You need a piece of paper, pen (or pencil or quill what ever floats your boat) and a dictionary for this one. Open up the dictionary to a random page and the first word you look at write down in the centre of the piece of paper and draw a circle around it. draw a line of to the next word or thing you think of that reminds you of that word and keep going for a good couple of minutes until you have a plethora of words scrawled all over your page. You’re sure to find inspiration from at least something you wrote down (or a bit of a laugh if its a really inappropriate or odd word you had to start off with).

– Write in the centre of your page what you need to find inspiration for. then draw lines of from to other things you have thought of so far – see if you can expand them further or take it to crazy ideas that you think won’t work or you’ve done in the past – you may find that the perfect idea will evolve.

3 Mood boards, Mood Books and Pinterest

Collect pictures of pretty things you love, a style that’s inspired you or even pictures of funny cats. You can just stick to pictures but including colours, colour schemes, textures, trinkets, texts, quotes and anything else you can pin or put into a book will give you a great visual of things that you can take inspiration from. You can pin them on a board, to your Pinterest account or put them in a scrapbook or folder!

4 People Watch

Put yourself in their shoes, imagines what shoes they would have, try to guess their hobbies, wonder where they have traveled before, look at their outfit, guess what they ate for lunch, what do you think would be on their Ipod, what do you think inspires them? these are just a handful of questions and ideas you can use to spur off thoughts and ideas that you can apply  to your lack of inspiration!

5 Do the Exact Opposite of What I’ve Said

Or you can let the idea and inspiration come to you and just wait until something catches your eye or clicks in your mind, it will feel like it was fate!

2012 in review

Thankyou too everyone who visited oh my gosh this year I cant wait for next year ❤ xoxox

The stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The new Boeing 787 Dreamliner can carry about 250 passengers. This blog was viewed about 1,700 times in 2012. If it were a Dreamliner, it would take about 7 trips to carry that many people.

Hair Colour Trend Prediction

I know this may sound a little crazy but I have a theory that hair colours and styles I have done and do become quite popular in the future.

for example:

All the way back in 2010 I dyed parts of my hair pink 🙂 (haha I may have revisited it again this year) I’ve also noticed dip dying and colouring hair from the colours of the rainbow has become quite popular in 2012 :)!

at the start of 2011 I started to style my hair 1940’s style, especially Victory Rolls. while this isn’t as popular as coloured hair has been I’ve noticed a spike in popularity of vintage hairstyles this year too.

and finally, This year a week ago actually I dyed my hair a very vibrant copper colour (inspired by the lovely ladies Karen Gillan from Dr Who and Christina Hendricks from Mad Men) so I predict that Copper is going to be a hot colour in the near future ;D

does anyone think my prediction is crazy or i’m onto something here ;D? xoxox

Cute Cupcake Nail Art

556798_4364045892019_233753462_nVery adorable aren’t they? while this isn’t hand painted, these are pretty awesome if you want stand out nails in a flash before a party or if you aren’t so talented with a nail polish brush 😛

They are super easy to stick onto your nails, first you do a base coat, then you use your cleat topcoat and dab a little on the back of the nail art and stick onto your nail, once its dry just paint on topcoat as usual!

I purchased these online from Urban Outfitters if anyone else is interested in giving them ago, the packet comes with four different designs, I also got adorable bows, stars and hearts in mine little pack 🙂

nail art and hot pink nail polish, it couldn't get any cuter!

Buffy Inspired Style

Hi Lovelies!

I thought I’d do a Buffy inspired style post today… I may or may not have been inspired because I met James Marsters (Spike) yesterday at Supanova!! Spike was hands down my favourite character in the Buffy series…  I even have the collectors doll too. I never thought I would get the chance to meet James though!! He is so lovely and charming it was definitely worth the wait to pick up the photo afterwards (an hour and a half… the ticket machine with the photo numbers broke so they had to give the photos out by identifying people in the photos!) if anyone ever gets the chance to go to Supanova do it, its really awesome 🙂

I was so shy/ starstruck I didn’t know what to say to him! but very very happy 🙂

The Buffy inspired outfit I have put together today is one that she wears in the first episode, (when she goes out at night and first meets Angel and he gives her the crucifix necklace) its a classic denim on denim look. I did change the ring though to a very similar one she wears later in the season of a plastic pink rose.

Flat Lay Practice

This is one of my assignments I’ve done for my styling course. I had to practice a flat lay like in the magazines. It’s actually a lot harder than it looks! Its really really tricky getting the clothes to sit right (i had lots of help from tissue paper XD) What do you guys think for my first attempt I know its far from perfect you can tell the shadows and some wrinkles in the jacket)? I’d love some feedback 🙂

Bananaberry Bread!

One of my favourite things to cook is banana bread. The other day I one upped it and made Bananaberry Bread! It tastes sooo good (that good I had to share it with you all!). It’s great as a snack, breakfast or even dessert! I’ve adapted the recipe from ‘The Australian Women’s Weekly – The Retro Cookbook’ which also is pretty awesome.

90 grams of unsalted butter softened

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

1 cup of firmly packed light brown sugar (you can use caster or other sugars, I have in the past but it tastes best with brown sugar)

2 eggs

1 cup of plain all-purpose flour

1 cup of self-raising flour

1 mashed banana

½ cup of mashed strawberries

½ cup of chopped blueberries

1 preheat oven to 180C/350F. Grease a loaf pan and line base and the long sides with baking paper (this helps to get the banana bread out when it’s done, I’ve also just greased the loaf tin and coated it with plain flour before but whatever way you prefer is up to you)

2 beat butter extract, and sugar in a small bowl with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time. Transfer mixture to a large bowl; stir in mashed banana, mashed strawberry and the chopped blueberries. Add sifted flours in two batched and mix.

3 spread mixture into pan and cover with a strip of pleated foil. Bake 40 minutes in the oven, uncover and then bake a further 30 minutes. Take the bread out at let it stand for 5 minutes before transferring it onto a wire rack to cool.

You can eat the Bananaberry bread as it or spread with lashing of butter, or maybe serve like a scone with jam and cream.

A Halloween Soiree

Halloween may have been and gone but that doesn’t mean there are not any parties going on this weekend! I hope everyone had a fabulous Halloween if you celebrate it, here in Australia it is not as popular. We did however have a couple of trick or treaters last night… and they were treated to bananas! We didn’t have any chocolate or lollies in the house surprisingly (may or may not be because chocolate and lollies don’t last long in our household XD) I also hope everyone affected from Hurricane Sandy were still able to celebrate Halloween, my heart goes out to all those affected by the hurricane ❤ I would love to hear how everyone celebrated Halloween or how they are going after the Hurricane in the US.

Meanwhile here are two very luxe outfits I quickly put together from gorgeous clothes on net-a-porter… I would prefer any goodies from net-a-porter any day over candy!
